Review & Giveaway : Barbie Girl - Heidi Acosta

Author: Heidi Acosta

Title: Barbie Girl
Series: Baby Doll #1
Published: November 1st 2012

Format: ebook
Source: Received an e-copy of this book in exchange for a honest review

The only thing that 17 year old Barbie Starr wants to do is graduate high school so she and her little brother, Everett, can get out of Alabama. She doesn't care about the rumors that are spread around about her like wild fire. Rumors are nothing new to her. Sure, maybe she could change her reputation, but why bother. She is leaving Alabama as soon as she can. That is, if she can pass algebra and graduate.

The only thing Dylan Knight would like to do is go through high school unnoticed; he has had enough of the drama that is high school. He took the whole of last summer to bulk-up: finally he is not being called names or being shoved into lockers. He wants to remain on the outside of the circle of constant rumors that surround the so-called popular kids who get all the attention. He would not, however, mind if his long time crush Katie took notice of him.

But it is Barbie who notices Dylan and she offers him a deal he can’t pass up: if he helps her pass algebra, she’ll help him get the girl of his dreams. Dylan agrees, but, as it turns out, nothing is simple when it comes to Barbie. Somehow, she can’t help but draw attention to herself — and to him. Soon Dylan finds himself tossed into the whirlwind of rumors that seem to follow Barbie everywhere. Can he save his reputation and still get the girl of his dreams? Or will Barbie be the one to break through his carefully-built facade?

My Thoughts

Heidi Acosta's Barbie Girl reminds me of Cindy C Bennett's Heart on a Chain & Geek Girl-Don't ask me why,it just does.I loved both Heart on a Chain & Geek Girl so I mean this in a good way.If you've read either book & enjoyed it you have to read Barbie Girl.

Hi,Axel & Dean!Thank you so much for stopping by my blog-I have a few questions for the two of you so can't wait to hear what you guys have to say!So lets start now..
  1. Describe Ren in 3 words.
AXEL: Beautiful, Strong, and Compassionate

DEAN: Bestest Best Friend

*Awww!Aren't they the sweetest?*
  1. If you could be a color what would you be?

DEAN: Dude I know you want to be like me, BUT you didn’t have to steal my answers.

AXEL: *rolls eyes at Dean*

  1. Tell me what your best AND worst trait is
AXEL: Best…? I’m not sure

DEAN: The wart on your nose?

AXEL: What? What the hell are you talking about?

DEAN: oh right your modesty.

AXEL: Dean, shut up. *shakes head, exasperated*

DEAN: Looks like Axel’s done. So my best trait, my irresistible sexy body and worst…? A winner never reveals their weaknesses. *grins*

* Don't you think that Dean should come with a label saying "WARNING-Major Swoon Inducer!" *
  1. When you are not protecting Ren or fighting off Goarders and all kinds of evil things what do you do?
DEAN: Wouldn’t you like to know?  *winks*

AXEL: probably looking at himself in the mirror.

DEAN: *chuckles* you’re just jealous that you don’t have half the handsome genes I do.

AXEL: Whatever dude. I’ve got other responsibilities that I need to tend to, on a daily basis… responsibilities to protecting innocents.

*Yes,Dean I WOULD like to know!Pretty please?And aww Axel-always the honorable one.*
  1. What is your idea of the best and most romantic date?
DEAN: something that involves sweaty bodies…

AXEL: Dude seriously?

DEAN: What…? I was going to say sweaty bodies, playing flag football, my girl on the opposite team.

AXEL: *runs a hand through hair, chuckling* That was so not what you were going to say. Anyways, for me, it would be anywhere… in anyway I spend with Ren.

*Gosh Axel!That's the sweetest thing EVA!And Dean-Football?Riiiiiiiiight.*
  1. What would be your worst nightmare?
AXEL: running away when I’m faced with death. Being a coward. *jaw clenches*

DEAN: Again, I’m not into shouting out my weaknesses. *Grins*

AXEL: *looks at Dean, brow raised, amused* You’re so… *shakes head*

*Oh Axel. *siiiiiiiign* Dean-always mysterious,huh?*
  1. Axel, how do you feel about the way that your relationship with Ren has evolved? Dean, at the beginning the spark between you and Ren was subtle and now it’s like full-blown fireworks! What triggered this change?
AXEL: I think Ren and I are at a good place. Only wish that she wouldn’t carry all this weight and fear on her shoulders… I know she’s struggling.

DEAN: *Clears throat* She’s strong. She’ll make the right choice. *turns to Nuzaifa* And as for us, the sparks have always been there. It was just a matter of letting them be. *shrugs*

*True,Ren is pretty strong despite the fact that she had a whole new world introduced to her*

AXEL: Thank you for having us on your blog.

DEAN: Yeah, thanks. *tilts chin up in a nod*

* Thank you guys for stopping by,I had a very niiiice time! ;) *

Once Ren finds the truth behind Axel’s arrival, she wants everything to do with him and nothing to do with his mission.

Things prove to become difficult as Ren’s life is constantly threatened by the Goarders, humans who sold their souls, a Proxy Succubi, and the leader of the Telalians, who has been searching for her as well.

With the clock ticking and Ren’s life in jeopardy, it is no longer just a mission for Axel. It becomes a personal endeavor to save the only one he’s ever loved. In a heart racing ending, they must find a way to evade the preordained war that won’t also end Ren’s life.

Review : Exposure: A Modern-Day Spin on Shakespeare's Macbeth

Author: Kim Askew & Amy Helmes

Series: Twisted Lit #2
Published: January 18th 2013 by Merit Press
Format: ebook
Source: Received a review copy from the publisher/author in exchange for a honest review

Double, double, toil and trouble. Sometimes, the quest for high school royalty can be deadly! In this emotionally-charged twist on Shakespeare’s Macbeth, a self-conscious shutterbug named Skye Kingston navigates a treacherous school year in Alaska fraught with unspoken secrets and tragic twists of fate. Along the way she encounters three strangely prophetic BFFs; one social-climbing, sociopathic cheerleader; and a heart-stopping hottie named Craig McKenzie: the man who would be Prom King. Can Skye save the boy she loves — and herself — before they get caught in the crosshairs?

My Thoughts

Exposure is yet another Shakespeare retelling by Amy Helmes & Kim Aksew. While Tempestuous was an enjoyable retelling of Shakespeare's Tempest,Exposure is based on Macbeth.
Macbeth was a compulsory part of my literature curriculum in high school so I did have a vague idea of what Exposure was based on.

My Book Haul #4

In My Mailbox is a weekly event hosted by The Story Siren and Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted @ Tynga's Reviews.

As a part of my new year resolution I was hoping NOT to buy a lot of books since my TBR pile is so huge and I've a LOT of ebooks that I've put on hold for about six months.

And as usual my plans to be good this year were foiled when I won an Amazon Giftcard,I couldn't let the card go to waste so I decided to go on a little shopping spree and got some super awesome books!

See that was soooo not my fault. *smirks*

So here's what I bought :

Book Blitz & Giveaway : The Boys of Summer - C.J. Duggan

Title: The Boys of Summer

Series: (Summer Series #1)

Author: C.J. Duggan

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

Release Date: December 17, 2012

It seemed only natural to nickname them the ‘Onslow Boys’. Every time they swaggered in the front door of the Onslow Hotel after a hard week’s work, their laughter was loud and genuine as they settled onto their bar stools. I peeked through the restaurant partition, a flimsy divider between my world and theirs. I couldn’t help but smile whenever I saw them, saw him ... Toby Morrison.

Quiet seventeen-year-old Tess doesn’t relish the thought of a summertime job. She wants nothing more than to forget the past haunts of high school and have fun with her best friends before the dreaded Year Twelve begins.
To Tess, summer is when everything happens: riding bikes down to the lake, watching the fireworks at the Onslow Show and water bomb fights at the sweltering Sunday markets.

How did she let her friends talk her into working?

After first-shift disasters, rude, wealthy tourists and a taunting ex-boyfriend, Tess is convinced nothing good can come of working her summer away. However, Tess finds unlikely allies in a group of locals dubbed ‘The Onslow Boys’, who are old enough to drive cars, drink beer and not worry about curfews. Tess’s summer of working expands her world with a series of first times with new friends, forbidden love and heart breaking chaos.

All with the one boy she has never been able to forget.

It will be a summer she will always remember.

Warning: sexual references, and occasional course language

“Don’t you dare.” I grabbed his arm, pulling him backwards. His eyes darted to where my hand rested on him. I didn’t move my hand, I couldn’t physically bring myself to break the contact; all of a sudden there were no smiles, no jokes, just him and me and our space on the couch. I could only hear the music and be aware of the heat of his skin and the rapid rise and fall of my chest in this moment.
The only thing that snapped me out of my daze was Toby’s words which seemed low and raspy.
“Is Adam your boyfriend?” His gaze flicked over my face as he waited for my answer. My mouth gaped open; I couldn’t hide the fact I was dumbfounded by the question.
I blinked quickly and took my hand from his arm. I struggled to construct a legible sentence.
“Oh – um, no, we’re just friends, it’s not like that.”
His stony expression didn’t falter, didn’t reveal any kind of emotion. He was so hard to read, and I wanted to read him so badly. He gave a small nod and handed me the CD cover.
“Better go and make sure these guys aren’t cheating.” And without another word, he got up and headed towards the pool table.
