REVIEW : REBEL HEART - MOIRA YOUNG

Review : Rebel Heart - Moira Young

Author: Moira Young
Title: Rebel Heart
Series: Dust Lands #2
Published: October 30, 2012 by Margaret K. McElderry
Format: Hardcover, 432 Pages
Source: Bought via Amazon

“We like to think we’re in charge of our own lives, but we ain’t.”

It seemed so simple: Defeat the Tonton, rescue her kidnapped brother, Lugh, and then order would be restored to Saba’s world. Simplicity, however, has proved to be elusive. Now, Saba and her family travel west, headed for a better life and a longed-for reunion with Jack. But the fight for Lugh’s freedom has unleashed a new power in the dust lands, and a formidable new enemy is on the rise.

What is the truth about Jack? And how far will Saba go to get what she wants? In this much-anticipated follow-up to the riveting Blood Red Road, a fierce heroine finds herself at the crossroads of danger and destiny, betrayal and passion.

My Thoughts

I read the Blood Red Road(Dust Lands #1) a couple of months back and absolutely loved it!It was the first Dystopian/Post Apocalyptic book that I read and it was quite an amazing page turner. After reading Blood Red Road I could hardly wait for the sequel and I was really excited to read it soon. And the sequel,Rebel Heart did not disappoint!

Red Blood Road ended with a bit of a cliffhanger and I could hardly wait to find out how the everything works out for Saba, Jack, DeMalo and Lugh. The sequel starts out with Jack's POV-he's meeting up with Molly to let her know about Ike.And the rest of the book is narrated through Saba's POV.And Saba was as kick-ass as in Red Blood Road. The story-telling was beautiful and the there was a lot of twists that kept me on the edge.

The action was intense and the there were a lot of surprises that left me frustrated. And if you expect to see the sweet ol' Lugh in Rebel Heart think again!Whatever happened back when he was captured by the Tonton has left Lugh bitter. He's still protective and sweet(at times) but the relationship between him and Saba is strained. The fact that Saba's fighting her own demons and is pretty spooked outta her mind adds further strain to their to their bond.Lugh's bitterness leaves him furious with Saba, Jack and their father.

All of the characters Emmi, Maev, Tommo(aww poor Tommo *sign*) and DeMalo have changed quite a bit. These changes have given the story a great twist.
Overall, Rebel Heart was filled with nothing but awesome-ness and I totally recommend it to every one who loves some good ol' fast paced action and a lil romance!

“All the time I’ve knowed you, Jack, you kept the door to that heart of yers locked up tight an the key hid away. Looks like she found it.

He says nothing. Molly waits.Keys ain’t her style, he says. She kicked the door down.”

Review : The Raven Boys - Maggie Stiefvater

Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Title: The Raven Boys
Series: Raven Cycle #1
Published: September 18, 2012 by Scholastic Press
Format: Hardcover, 408 Pages

“There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.
Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.
His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.
But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.
For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

My Thoughts

Wow just wow! Shiver has been on my TBR list for quite some time and I never actually got around to reading it for some reason so this is my first book by Maggie. There are tonnes of YA Fantasy books out there and I've never come across a book that I can compare to The Raven Boys-it was an exceptionally original book.

At the beginning I had no idea where the plot was headed because all the elements seemed to be just all over the place but as the story progresses everything fell into place.
What I loved the most about this book was that ALL of the characters both Blue and the Raven Boys(Gangsey,Adam,Ronan and Noah) were very much involved in the story and did not just keep popping in and out of the scenes.

Usually I prefer reading books written in first person narration because it's more relate-able.
The Raven Boys was written in third person, that is the perspectives of Blue,Gangsey,Adam and Whelk and the transition from one perspective to the other was smooth.

The interaction between the characters was pretty cool and there were some laugh-out-loud moments too!Blue's family members were great supporting characters too.

The only thing I wished for was a little more interaction between Blue and Gansey. Well I guess we still have the sequel to see more of that! Can't believe we have to wait till September 2013 for it though! :(

Overall,it was a great book-one that I'd recommend for everyone!
